Cholera is killing many thousands in Zimbabwe today. Lack of clean water due to dilapitated infrastructure represents a nearly insurmountable problem. The Guardian has a decent overview of the problem presented in a six minute video. Here's a disease whose simple method of transmission was uncovered ages ago, but it still devestates regions today simply because many people are abjectly poor.
